In 1856 the FIRST railroad bridge across the Mississippi River opened in Rock Island IL. For more than 120 years the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad continued to expand becoming the epicenter for Midwest agricultural and industrial output. While the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad dissolved in 1980, the Quad Cities this remains incredibly active with modern rail companies.
