This Tintype is a portrait of a soldier from the Civil War. It is an close up portrait from the chest up. The soldier appears wearing a Hardee style hat. The embossed frame around him is decorated with flags, musical instruments, and artillery. Tintype photographs were very popular during this time, made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron and laid inside of a decorative frame.
