This antique odometer was designed to measure the distance traveled by bicycle—a clever innovation for its time.
While the concept of the odometer dates back as far as 1628, originally used on ships, bicycle-specific models like this one gained popularity in the late 19th century. This particular piece, produced by the New York Standard Watch Co., emerged around 1895, during the height of the cycling boom.
