BISHOP GUNN: ROCK N’ ROLL REVITALIZED
Mike is all about discovering new music, and there is no better place to do that than in Music City. In Nashville, live music can be heard in every single honky-tonk, restaurant, and even out at the airport! Mike first heard the fellas of the blues-based hard rock band, BISHOP GUNN, at a small venue in the very historic and quaint neighborhood of Leiper’s Fork, just outside Nashville. As the Natchez, Mississippi band prepares for their year ahead, releasing an album, and getting ready to go on their first tour, they want you to know, that they are finding their route in the history of American music, one chord at a time.
“BISHOP GUNN also strives to keep as vintage of a feel as possible,” said drummer Burne Sharp. “From our clothes to equipment and so on! We are trying to bring real, soulful, non processed music back to the forefront of the industry. We are constantly digging into music history and culture to find the next idea and merging that with how we feel we can best deliver it. All of us were raised with a great sense of music from our parents and instilled with those qualities of music and history. We know that Rock n’ Roll isn’t dead just needs to be revitalized, and that is ultimately our mission.”
The Natchez, Mississippi men on this musical mission are: lead guitarist Hudson Laird, drummer Burne Sharp, vocalist Travis McCready, and bass player Daniel Scott. If you can believe it, the America rock n’ roll band formed as the result of a studio project in the summer in 2014! The name is a hybrid mashup from the tombstone of John Edward Gunn and his title as Bishop of Natchez. Combine the two and you’ll get BISHOP GUNN.
Before you even hear the vocalist Travis McCready, rock out, you’ll find yourself taking a second look at the band’s vintage vibe and style.
Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of folk, and rhythm And they feel it is their collective responsibility to build a community of musicians around them.
“We feel it’s important for the whole area to be uplifted and create a cultural movement for music. We are in the heart of the birthplace of music and it’s our responsibility to keep the traditions and history alive heading into the future.”
Right now, BISHOP GUNN is excited about their debut album they recorded, in Tennessee, and spreading the word about the Americana Music Triangle.
“The AMT is such an amazing tool for finding your own route through the history of American music. A great deal of research was put into the triangle and we want to do what we can to be ambassadors of the movement if you will!”
